Fall is just around the corner. It’s funny to even think about that right now when it’s like an oven in the city of angels. However, I feel at ease thinking soon I will be cooling down, seeing rain fall, cool brisk weather mixed in with beautiful California sunshine. Amidst that, wearing warmer clothing, and some stunning shoes. So, yes, I am in the market right now for some stylish boots.
I have seen quite a few boots, but besides nice design, comfort is key. Also, if they serve a cause like eco-friendly materials or give a shoe to those in need, I am definitely in. The search is on.
I recently went onto a site of a brand I enjoy for their nice materials, interesting design details, and comfort. This brand is called Terra Plana, whom I believe is based in the UK. I love their pump Melito (check out www.terraplana.com). The heel and last look great and the simplicity mixed with fun design touches is what I like the most. I love its sporty and edgy, fashion look. I was searching around their website for a possible boot and to my dismay nothing. Maybe it’s too early? Maybe they don’t do boots? At any rate, I decided to sketch some boots with the Melito last and use some of the same elements like the broguing on heel counter and whip stitch. I personally love just black boots but would like to see some details that are nice but yet subtle. I thought Terra Plana did that superbly with the pump. I also added buckles/snaps on the shaft. I was inspired by shoe designer Annette Tang from www.theversastyle.blogspot.com, for her ability to not only recognize trends but nametrends so well. I like the name she recently gave for military wear..Michael Jackson band wear. Nicely put!
Here are some boot sketches with similar details from the Melito shoe.
