I feel like I am cheating here a little bit on my inspiration. Several weeks ago, while collecting images for a project, I came across an editorial with an amazing coat. I added the editorial to my large stack of tear outs, and after playing paper dolls on my cork board a million times { I love to add and take out pics while I am working}. I lost the tear out. {So annoyed}.

I try to include inspiration with my sketches, and searched endlessly for this coat online and went thru my high stack of magazines. I could not find it. So, in lieu of this gorgeous coat, I am substituting it for another amazing coat by Isabel Marant. It has similar detailing. The piping. Dark grey. It’s missing details such as frayed edges, and an insane high collar with a red underlay around the collar. I must find it, and show it to you.

The sketch is inspired by that coat. Instead of red detailing, I went with  purple. I love choked up heels and boots, so I combined these two silhouettes, and came up with a semi hybrid.  I see the laces in rounded leather. Possibly a shoe lace that has a raw or suede feel.

The lace stocking…While I was in NYC, {during Hurricane Sandy }, I only got one shopping day.  I was able to check out Soho luckily.  I briefly stopped by the Wolford shop and fell in love with the various designs – lace, fishnet, flowers, dots. I came up with my own take. Overall  a feminine vibe with an edge.

P.S. I found this lovely quote by Chanel on her thoughts about lace..

“I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature; lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin.”
