Wow, my first post in a long while, where I’m actually writing something. The last several months of 2012 were insanely overwhelming. Dealing with a lot of personal and a lot of work. Not the greatest mix but hey, you gotta deal with it. I will say, I am so glad 2012 is over. Looking forward to a new year of success, growth, love, and happiness..

Back to shoes! After the endless holiday events,  came a few birthdays. I learned from a special friend the importance of sending personalized notes to people. It’s become a mini addiction. I’m also addicted to the Paper Source. Have you been there? It’s creative heaven. Recently, I purchased an embossing kit, a few stamps, glitter glues, etc.  Instead of buying birthday cards, I thought it would be special to create illustrated cards with of course…shoes.

Here is the process:

I didn’t have a lot of time to sketch out a bunch of ideas. So, when I thought of something , I just sketched it out wherever. The sketch is based on what I know of my friend. One girl is on the trendy side.  I knew I wanted to show more than shoes. The other girl is classy. She likes the finer things in life, including some stellar Loubi’s. I knew she covets leopard Louboutin pumps and so, that had to be part of the card.

Drawing leopard for both cards turned out to be coincidental. ( Yeah, my short term memory sucks right now. ) I drew the leopard Louboutin’s first. Several days later, I happened to be looking at the Philip Lim Fall 13 collection on style.com, and was inspired by the royal blue pops with leopard in his collection. I originally had royal blue in the shoe, but ended up removing it because I didn’t think it fit my girlfriends aesthetic.

This is the beginning stages of my shoe card illustrations. I didn’t have a lot of time to spend on the cards, but I’m most happy, that I could do something nice for a friend. I will definitely be working on more, and am looking forward to sharing with you this evolving hobby!
