Last year I wrote a post here about Aaryn Nutter, and her amazing print studio Aaryn West -Surface Design. I had the opportunity to look thru her collection of prints (which by the way are so inspiring & impressive), and found a few prints that I thought would be great for Spring 13 footwear designs.
I thought it would be fun to design a shoe for Aaryn that represented her style. A while ago, Aaryn and I went out to lunch, and she expressed the need for ankle booties. At that point, I knew it’s a must to design Aaryn some printed booties. My goal was to not give Aaryn any old bootie, but a design with interesting lines. I saw an editorial with some cute shorts, and loved the detail around the waistline. A hidden zip on the lateral side, and some hooks inside the top line strap would be a nice addition to the design. I also like the print bold, and not too small. Check it out!
Oh yeah, and since I was sketching shoes, I thought why not do one for myself! I love feminine with hard details right now, and wanted something I could wear everyday. I kept the print on the wedge, and liked the upper in dark navy rich leather with a clear TPU strip on the side. Of course, I wanted a rubber outsole so I could be comfortable, run around town, or travel in style. What do you think? Which one would you wear?
